erul assembly are of interest to the
clerical branch of the court in Fain
ileid county. The principal measure
deals with the salary allowance and
for extra clerk hire.
At the present time the allowance
for salaries for clerks in Fairlield
to increase this 82.000 for the purpose
of providing in a regular way for As-
sistant Clerk Michael J. Flanagan, of
Bridgeport. . ,
The increase in this form is not an
actual additional expense of the
state. as Clerk Flanagan's salary is
already allowed by the Judges. But It
is not provided for in the regular ap-
propriation and this amendment is to
meet that absence.
Clerk Flanagan attends to the no
turallsation branch of the court. an
additional expense which was created
when the new United States Jaw on
naturalization, one of the best mess
urea ever passed went into effect.
The Judges of the superior court
made an allowance for this service. As
the position is to be Wmanent it is
now proposed to place the salary on
the regular list.
in addition to his services in the
naturallsatlon branch. Clerk Flanagan
attends to such court duties as is pos-
sible. With the constantly growing
work of the court. as the county or
pends. there is plenty of work to do,
and when there are three and tour
tribunals in session it is necessary to
hire still further assistance. A provis-
ion to the amount of $1.500 is to be at.
lowed by the new law.
The other measure is simply a cor-
rection of an error made in amending
the law in regard to the npminttuent
of Commissioners to the Superior
court. A change was made in the law
at the last session and the amendment

reference in the previous amendment
