Past Year Has Been Busy, More
Gases Than Ever Before
Being Treated
The annual report of the Norwaik
Hospital has lust been printed and is
being distributed to the citizens of the
town. The report of the board of di-
reciors is as follows:

report or the Norwuik Hospital for
the year ending September 30th. 1010.

Since last March the smallest uumbti
of patients for any one day has been
seventeen, while during the lust three

patients have been cared for. This has
resulted‘in crowded wards and a ne-
cessary refusal of other cases. apply-
ing for the hospital care as there was
no room to receive them. The wards
accommodate twenty-two. the recovery
room two" and the private rooms six.
With thirty patients it means that sv«
cry bed is occupied. it is evident then
that 'the limits of the hospital have
been reachcdtund there is an impera~
tive demand for additional and inrgor
accommodations. With every ward in
continual use there is no chance for
the systematic "house cleaning." This
problem or more room. if the increas-
ing iiomniid upon the liospitnl is to be
met, confronts us. Steps should be
taken looking to the erection of a new
building. ,
Notwithstanding the strenuous
work placed upon the superintendent
and the nurses, it has been mot and
every emergency cared for. A refer.
once to the medical and surgical report
will show the detailed work. There
have been more than the usual l'llilll‘
bar of typhoids. there being at one
time eleven in the hospital. in this
fact alone is strong argument for bet»
ter facilities of treatment. Convales-
cents. operative crises and and patients
critically ill should not be placed in
juxtaposition and crowded into the
same word. Under such a disndvan
tugs. that the hospital can hallo been
so successful is due to the conscien-
tious and faithful fulfillment of all
their duties by the superintendent.

as was given last year Through an
arrangement made by the superinton‘
dent the graduates are to have the. ad
vantage of a course of instruction at
a New York institution in midwifery
and the care of infants and children
where they may obtain a thorough
training in these branches and thus
supplement the instruction which they
receive here. The :uduutee from the
training school this year are Miss
Josephine ii. Nutting. Miss Anna Ban
ry and Miss Nona F. Raleigh.

port that while the number of patients
have been more, 300. and the number

expense per cnpita per week has been
less, The church collections for the
year have been gratifying. nmountina
to $509.20 and largely in excess of that
of the preceding one. The individual
gifts bavo been 3017. and the yearly
subscriptions 325. it is earnestly hop-

will still more abound in the coming
year. it is throuih such practical help
so this that the hospital maintains its
charitable care of the sick and needy
in our midst.
Our Appreciation is due to the. La-
dios‘ Board for their cooperation and
assistance. and to the medical staff for
their attendance upon and cure of the
patients admitted to the hospital.
We bespunlt a continued interest in
the hospital and it» charitable work.
With no large endowments it must do»
pond in a great measure upon the slits
and contributions from friends in no
cord with the spirit of its existence.
it freely receives and cures for those
in need and want. its cost or mainte-
nance is large. To its friends it so-
peals for a generous support.
