Hundreds of commuters were ma- rooned on Staten island and were air able to reach Manhattan except by matting a wide detour into New Jelk sey. The plow is larger and better equipped than any ever in use here. and it would appear that the trolley company had little to fear from alarms in the future. if the plow does what is expected from it. The car is made of heavy oak tiin her and is reinforced with steel and iron braces. It will resist practically any shock that any snow may have no canton to give it and will plow through most any drift. no matter how bad it they be. The car has power behind it to do all these things. being equipped with four 75 horsepower motors for propelling entirely. This is in compar- ison with the other double truckers. the passenger cars, which have only four 40 horse motors. The' mechan- ism for operating the plow and the lev- elers one of which is situated on eith- er side' of the car. is of heavy iron . and the plow is operated by a separate ; motor of three horse power. Beside being a double trucker; the car is a double endsr. and the steel plates on the ends are modeled much the same as those on the steam road plows.
