When the ballot for city clerk was
first counted it showed that John J.
Cuneo, the present Republican incum
bent. had 580 votes and his Demo-
cratic opponent. Frank F Hunting-
ton. had 672. Joseph Rooney, who
was watching the count in the interest
of Mr. Huntington. protested against
the admission of some of the ballots
by Moderator llnuici Dunlap, llllli de~

two or the seven rolls of ballots which
had been deposited in the box. and

Mr. Huntington. the vote showing for
Cunco 579 to l-iumington’s 573. and
cutting down Cullen's majority from

Keogh and others. representing Mr.
liuutington. The latter was called in.
and afier the situation had been ex-
plained to him. he decided to ask for
a recount. and expressed his intention
to Moderator Daniel Dunlop.
Attorney William F. Tammany. who
was suing as clerk of the board of
counters, protested against any fur
ther handling of the ballots for the
office of city clerk. He claimed that a
recount had been given, and that he
did not propoae to remain any longer.

and that Mr. Huntington’s only 1'0
dress was to take the matter to the
courts, if he so desired.
Attorney Keogh disputed this, show-
ing that a puriial recount only had
been made. and that a full recount

changed by only a retouni of two of
the seven lmndlos of ballots.
Mr Tammany told Mr Keogh that

had been jollying the Republicans
about being poor losers, and now he
claimed the Democrats were situated

about one of the Republicans taking
an oilice away from them.
Mr. Keogh still insisted that a lo-
couni be taken. and Mr. Rooney and
Harold F Clark had some warm words
over the manner in which the ballots
had been counted. Mr. Ronny alleging
that Mr Clark appeared to want to
“count Mr Canon in as (it) dork."
Mr. Clark denied this and said Mr.
Rooney was butting into matters that
did not concern him. Mr Rooney
claimed the right as a voter and said
he was representing litr. Huntington.
Mr. Tammany declined to discuss
the matter further and putting on his
hat. walked into the nest room. and
he was utgaid by Moderator Dunioll.
