figured prominently Saturday after-
noon in the international motor boat
races at Larchmont. and but for time-
l‘y aid from the yacht, the fast English
motor boat Pioneer which broke down
and caught Ilre as well would probably
have been completely destroyed.
The Pioneer which was making very
fast time, stopped on the first round
just after she had passed the Nylked.
The two men aboard her worked hard
to get her started. but before they suc-
ceeded. the people aboard the Nylked
saw flames shoot up from the racer.
In a twinkling the whole craft appear
ed to be enveloped In flames.
Then regardless of the peril of the
situation. a small best put off from the
Nylked. with the mate. the steward
and one sailor and two are extinguish-
ers on board, and headed for the burn.
llg racer. The burning boat was
reached inside of a minute and a half
from the time the fire was discovered.
The fire extinguishers were used to
, such excellent advantage that the tire
was put out without destroying the eu-
glne or the best. In fact the men
aboard the Pioneer were dually able to
get her started again In a few minutes.

Idaho this morning there are prayers
that the weather bureau has forcaated
accurately In predicting showers for
today. Nothing but rain can save the
situation. The hundreds of weary men
who for days have battled with the
flames In the forests are staggering to
safety with bloodsllot eyes and selling
limbs. doused themselves In streams
or burying their faces In mod for pro-
