O'Brien. a member of parliament from
Kilkenny. drew the attention of Premi-
er Asquith to the incident on the occa-
sion of the reception at Castlereagh.

of America. who has come to this
side in response to an invitation ex-
tended by John Redmond and other
lrsh leaders. when the police ordered
a local saloonkeeper to remove the
American flag. Mr. O'Brien declared
that this incident, was regarded in Am-
erica as an insult to the flag, and he
suggested that Ambassador Bryce be
instructed to explain and apologize.

LYTLE'S MECHANICIAN KILLED.

RIVERH'EADAL. l.. Sept.- zit-Her
bert H. Lytle. one of the best known
professional automobile racers in the
country. was dangerously hurt, and his
mechanlcian, James Bates, was fatally
injured, today. in the Long Island stock
car races near Riverhead.
Bates died soon fter the accident.
The fatality occur early in the
race while Ly'tle and Bates. driving an
Apperson car, were rounding a curve.
on the first lap of the course. near the
town of Northville. The. racing SUIO;
mobile was going nearly seventy miles
an hour when it skidded and overturn-
ed. pinning both men beneath. Lytie
was intured internally. The mechani-
clan’s skull was crushed, and he re-
ceived internal injuries. He was un-
conscious when plcked up. Lytle, it
is said, has a chance to get wall.
The injured men were taken to to
neighboring farmhouse for medical at-
tendance. .

suming the school building. at Shade
Gap. marched out in safety yesterday.
As Miss Gamble left the building, the
roof fell in. McGowan's hotel and a
residence adjoining were burned to the
ground.
