All the excitement was caused by
the restoration or the Norwnlk pole.
after many years of distress among
the Norwulk scientists. The pole was
originally cut from green timber, and
was stretched out on It rocky surface
to dry. III the process of drying it
accumulated sundry gyrals and spirals
and loops and twists. The last can
of the appropriation mode by the City
Council had been spent, and there was
nothing to do but put up the pole in
its distorted condition. For years
it has stood wtxnrling ‘bove the vil-
lage green. II mystery and riddle to the
universe.
When the papers began to teem
with Pole news, Norwalkiana took rc-
newed interest in their own pole. and
there were many discussions about
Ita probable straightening.
A Marvelous Feat.
Today came the glad tidings from
the intrepid Cavanagh, who. at his
own expense. had reached the pole.

Horace Donn, the real estate man,

Cavanagh reached the pole. He will
direct the celebrations.
The U. S. gunboat Machias now lies
at anchor off Roton Point, and it is he-
lieved that it is thy intention of the
government to oilicially recognize the
feat of Cavauagh. The booming of It
salute would surprise no one.
