While Turning Comer
Four persons had a miraculous es-
cape from a serious accident in Fair-
iield about 8 o‘clock last evening when
a big Buick car skidding at Flint‘s
corner. turned turtle and pinned
them underneath it. but no one was
hurt. and the car after being righted
proceeded under its own power to
liulkley's automobile station. where it
was repaired.
The car belonged to Aiois Kobler, of
New Canaan. and was on Its way from
Bridgeport. 'lile Knitters formerly re
aided in South Norwslk. ‘V‘h’cre Hr.
Keillor was one! at the imperial Cats
of Carl Schaub.
Attempting to negotiate the abrupt
turn at Flint's corner at a pretty still
rate of speed the car skidded and rip
ped off both the tires on the left hand
side after which it turned turtle, pin
ning its occupants three men and one
women, under it.
There happened to be several cars
passing of. the time and the occupants
lent assistance, so that the people were
released from their uncomfortable pm
sltlon and the car righted, after which
it limped along in Bulkley's automo-
bile station, where new tires were put
on and the front axis. which was bent
a little. was straightened.
The roadway at this point is hcnv~
ily oiled. and the water from the recent
shower made it so slippery that when
the car struckwit at a good rate of
speed there was nothing to prevent
the accident.

the city of the Hotel Clifford property.
at the corner of South Main and Ella-
abeth street. is being quite extensively
talked up. As yet. no definite steps
have been taken to bring this deal
about. but those who favor it are on-
thusiastic over the possibilities.
it Is stated in this connection that
the sale price of the property is 860,-
000. and that ntpnirs its. the building
would not cost over 35.000, bringing
the total cost to the city up'to $70,000.
The idea is to request the legislature
to give the city the right to issue four
per cent. bonds to this extent. and it
is claimed that by renting it portion
of the building. as at present. the city
would be. practically at no expense for
interest money. . he interest on. the
four per cent. huh I would be $2,800.
At the present time, it is said the
Connecticut Company and the drug
store rent together for 02,400 a year.
Then it is pointed out that the cafe
could be rented as a store and that
some of the local lnwyers would un.
doubtediy be glad to hire office room
in the building.
So much for revenue. As to the city
quarters. the adherents of the idea say
that in the building could be housed
the city council. the police depart-
ment. the town court, also a re enue
producer. the water commissi hers
and tax collector it is also claimed
