TWO LOCAL DIVORCE CASES.

Suite.
Two divorce cases of considerable
local interest were tried out today be-
fore Judge Howard .1. Curtis, in the
Superior Court. at Bridgeport.
Both were uncontested.
Mrs. Lillian F. Manville asked for a
decree from Edward B. Manviile. the
former South Norwalk organist. who is
now located in Pennsylvania. on the
ground of intolerable cruelty. Mrs.
Manville was represented by Attorney
John Keogh. Judge John H. Light.
who has been counsel for Mr. Man-
ville. withdrew appearance to contest
the case. Mrs. Manvllle was former'
ly Miss Lillian Froeb.
Arthur S. Flatt. who is employed in
the Norwaik iron Works. and who
lives in East avenue. desired a com-
plete separation from his wife. who
was formerly Miss Mamie C. Brush.
alleging that she had deserted him. He
was represented by Attorney William
A. Griffin. Jr.. of South Norwalk. Mrs.
Platt’s attorneys. Keogh and Candee.~
had already ‘wlihdrew appearance.
leaving the way clear for an uncon-
tested decree. The Platts had been
married for several years and have
no children.

The big sale of Rogers & Stevens.
at their Norwalk store. opened with a
rush. yesterday. At the present rate
at which the stock of the store is be-
ing disposed of, it will be gone within
a very few days. There are bargains
galore. for everything is being dispos-
ed of. in ,order to restock the store
entirely with new goods.
Robert Powell. who was only recent.
ly discharged frotn jail. got himself in
the clutches of the law early last eve-
ning. Officer Page found him in
Knight street, hopelessly intoxicated.
and took him to the. Water street lock-
up for safe keeping. At 2 o'clock this
afternoon Judge E. M. Lockwood will
give him a chance to explain his con-
duct.
The Norwalk committee on paving
West avenue met in the council cham-
bers. last evening. and discussed the
question. There were many kinds of
paving spoken of. and a lengthy discus
sion followed. but it. was thought best
not to do anything in the matter until
the committee in South Norwalk.
which had been appointed for the
purpose of studying various kinds of
paving. had been consulted, to see what
their plans were. Dr. Wiliam J. Tra-
cey was appointed a committee of one
to confer with these men, to see whe-
ther a meeting of the two committees
could not be arranged. to meet either
in Norwalk or South Norwalk in the
near future.

STAMFORD. Miiy 21.—--Thc house
and barn of Emil Marri. located at
Japan Point, about three miles from
this city. were burned early today. The
fire started in the barn from some un-
known cause. When Mr. Marri open~
ed a door of the house facing and
close by the burn the flames were so
hot as to burn him severely about the
face. The loss is estimated at about
$7,000, with partial insurance.
