joint conference committee of the lo
cal associations of list Makers and
Hat Finishers. which wont to New
York yesterday. held a long confer-
ence with the national officers and the
national tarvisory board of the United
Hatters of North America, in relation
to‘ the situation, and after the confer-
ence the ‘oiiicers and advisory board
met tor the consideration of the sug-
gestions which had been the subject
of discussion. No decision upon the
matters under consideration was an-
nounced last night,- nnd the advisory ‘
board adjourned until today
Nothing has been made public in re-
lation to what transpired either at the
conference between the sub-committee
and the national representatives ‘or at
the meeting of the officers and the ad-
visory board The subcommittee met
with the whole joint committee this
morning, to make its report of yester-
day's conference, and another meeting
_ of the committee is to be held tomor-
row afternoon.
President M. J. Lynch. of the Mak-
ers'» Association, chairman of the Joint
committee, said today that in the ab-
sence of any definite information in re-
lation to the situation, he did not feel
,at liberty to make any statement in re-
gard to the probable results of the con-
ferences between the committee and
the representatives of the- national or-

The new but factories. 'which have
been opened in Bethel within the past
few months are meetingmith splendid
success, and me running to their luu
est capacity.
At the 0qu (outcry. on Beaver
street, where hats are termed and
made in the rough, one hundred dozen
a day are being put through IIDllrlug
the hast two weeks, the factory has
been run day and night two sets of
men being employed.i1‘ortyiive hat-
ters are employed. and the iirin has
seventy five on its pay roll including
all who are employed about the fat.-
law. Mr Cliff said this morning that
the firm had been moat successful in
the work turned out so far, and that
the outlook for the future was encour-
aging.
At the Bates and Hyatt factory, in
Greenwood avenue, where hats are siz-
ed only; from seventyIiive to one hull-
dred dozen a dar‘nro being sent out.
The firm gives employment to forty
men, the men working in teams of
three. Here also work is being car—
ried on most successfully.
The Alert Hat Company. in Beaver
street, is rushed with Master orders.
and its thirty- six employee are finish-
ing and trimming from thirty to thirty-
slx dozen a day. At the factory this
morning it was said that an enlarge.
ment of the factory and the business
was being talked of. but nothing deiiu
lie regarding it had been settled as
yet.
The von Gal factory, in Greenwood
avenue, as told in The News a few
days ago, is another busy factory.

It is said that another new firm will
open, in the course of a few weeks, a

Huributt, in Beaver street.
While regretting that some of her

much to be thankful for.
