Assessment on c. D. Matthews Estate
Increased to $130,000.
The Board of Relief of the Town of
Norwaik held its first meeting yester-
day afternoon from 2:30 o‘clock until
5 o‘clock. but only a few complaints
were heard from taxpayers. They will
meet. next three Saturday afternoons
from 2 to 4 in the afternoon to bear
complaints regarding the assessments.
Oscar W. Raymond. Isaac Selleck
and W. G. Crockett. the Iloard of As
sessors. have assessed the large cs-
tate of Charles D. Matthews, in West
avenue. at 8130, 000, and it is probable
that the Board of Relief wtii be appeal
ed to to cut. this amount down to $100,-
000.
It will be remembered that for a
number of you‘re our property was as-
sessed for 3160, 000 and nothing was
said until last- year the accessors
jumped this amount to 8250.000. The
owners of the estate immediately ap-
pealed to have this amount out. and
the Board of Relief cut it to $180. 000.
A law snitisa had over this and the
court handed dOWn a decision that the
place could not be sold for more than
$100 000. Therefore the assesunent
was fixed at this amount.
