that President Roosevelt will ticspatch
to the Italian government a message
expressing his deep sympathy and the
question of relief will be considered
by the leaders of the Red Cross move-
ment.
The Italian Embassy was without of-
liclal advices oi the earthquake 11p to
a late hour this morning. Ambassador
Mayor Des Plauchos Is in Canada and
is not expected back in Washington
until tomorrow night. Any advices re
ceived meantime by the embassy from
the Rome Government probably will be
forwarded to him and it is probable
that he will get into touch with his
gowrnmcnt immediately either direct-
ly or through the other members ofl

The American National Red Cross
today sent out telegraphic requests to
all of its branches for relief to be ap
plied to the sufferers from the earth-
quake in Southern Italy. The Italian
Red Cross Society being so fully on
ganized it will not be necessary for
the American Society to do more than
to send money contributions which will
be done as promptly as possible.
The Red Cross Society also request,-
od the State Department to extend.
