14 is the purpose of the Ninth Com-
pany. Coast Artillery. of Stamford, to
build, during the winter. a dummy
6-inch coast defense gun, which may
be manned, operated and fired in the
same manner as those. now being used
by the. Coast Artillery Corps pf the
United States Army. By accomplish
ing this. the Stamford company will
be the first militia command in this
country which will be able to boast of
u coast defense gun built. by its own
men; and the hencllt and knowledge
to be derived from the construction
work, and the use of the gun when
completed, will help make the Ninth
company one of the leading military
organizations outside the regular or-
my. says the Stamford Advocate.
It is necessary to have funds at
once, in order to even start the pro-
posed plans. and the company is main
