A number of wealthy residents of
Durien have been receiving carloads
of fertilizer for their places and this
has given rise to a great deal of com-
plnlnt owing to the very offensive
odor that arises from it. The matter
has been taken in hand by Town
Health Officer G. ll. Noxon, who has
notified the railway company that the
manure can be removed from the card
only at night, and the cars must be
emptied the night after they arrive.
Among those who have received ship-
ments of manure are L. C. Sultser,
Edgar S. Auchlncloss, Ansell Phelps
Stokes and John A. Jarvis. The man-
ure has collie from the Wright sta-
bles, in New York, and it is being ob-
tained now at a lower price than would
be the case at andther season. Simi-
lar objection was made a year ago, in
other small towns, but in these a rela-
cdy was found by adopting an ordin
once that covers the subject as the
towns had incorporated ,boroughs.

The last remnants of ibd old ortho-
dox Mormons, who did not follow Brig
llam Young in the exodus to Utah,
have gathered together for a final
stand in a little meeting house in Sil-
vcrntine, a rural township in the hills
of Fulrllcld county, Connecticut, says
the New York Tribune.
Their white, barnlike structure bears
the title, "Reconstructed Church of
Christ of the Letter Day Saints." With-
in uro bare walls and eight wooden
benches, which, however, more than
hold the few parishioners who gather
on Sundays, for the church members
number only forty-four. They are scat
tered from Norwalk to Danbury, and
some of them from over "York state
and are the only surviving Mormons
of the oldschool. to whom the Utah
brothers are aposiates.
The preacher of the little church ro-
sembles the portraits of Horace Cree
ley.‘ lie looked askancc at a stranger

ceoded with the scripture reading. it
