to Start a Strike.
This morning Contractor A. M. Cu-
sack. who is laying the Brook street
sewer, had some trouble with one of
the men. Mr. Cusack stated that some
time ago he had trouble with the same
one, and discharged him, but Ito again
asked fOr work. so he was put on the
job. This ntorrting he tried to start a
strike among the- men, because they
did not receive double pay for work-

NEW YORK, July 27.—lIydrophobia,
the result of It dog bite, regarded at

lictttcnant of police.
Wltllc Phillips was playing with his
pet dog last October the animal bit
hint slightly on the check. Symptoms
of the dread disease developed yester—
day. By night the victim became vio—
lcttt and he was removed to a hospital.
An examination failed to show any
scar, but spasm followed spam until
the victim became nearly unmanage-
able, and he died today after a night
of torture. Phillips was dismissed
from the police force‘some time ago
and has since conducted a detective
ugcncy.
