The poles for the new electric light
system are being set in Second street

the line is being pushed and it will be

Two of the members of the Pastime

teresting time yesterday, while on a
driving trip through Darlen. The first

troubles philosophically and went to

Darien and had a lunch in honor of
their troubles.
The children of the second grade of

curred while the trucks were in the
paint shop. Just when the demmistra-
tion with them will be given has not

There were few minutes of intense
excitement, Sunday morning, about the
fine residence of John Sherman Hoyt.
at Contentment Island, when a tire
was discovered in the laundiy build-
ing. Fire extinguishers were secured
and proved to be useless, and then
the guests and everybody nearby turn-
ed out and by good, hard labor, the
old barn which is near the blazing
building was saved. Had the old barn
took tire, a new barn would have un-
doubtedly gone with it, and possibly
the house itself! might have been en-
dangered. it is a. lucky thing that the
blaze was discovered as quickly as
it was. The laundry structure was re-
duced to ashes, in spite of the efforts
to save it. .

A new club has been formed in
town the name of which is to be the
M. S. Club. Mrs Jesse Keefer was
elected president and Miss Alberta
Darrow secretary. The. next meeting
of the club will be held at Roton Point
on June 25th.
The peaceful citizens of Westport
are somewhat wrought up just at pre-
sent, over the ‘fact that a number of
foreigners are negotiating to purchase
a large tract of land on the main road
to Bridgeport, just this side of the
Westport Congregational church. This
is quite a. residential section, and
there are, many beautiful places about
the section, and it evidently does not
please these people to think of a for-
eign settlement being made right in
their neighborhood.
Justice Josebh G. Hyatt bound Ros-
ario Ferrari over to the September
term of the Superior court on a charge
of selling obscene postal cards at his
.store in this village. He was released
on a bond of 8500 furnished by his
wife. Ferrari will also be tried before
the some Justice on the 18th inst. for
violating the excise laws by selling
cider under the name of “apple tonic. ”
