garding protecting wild birds has not
thanged they should read what hap-
pened in one of the schools III the out.-
skirts of Bridgeport.
Two boys, eleven and twelve years
old, were destroying birds' nests and
eggs. though the teachers had taught.
the children of the school to protect
and care for them. These two per-
stated and the whole school rose up
against them and with iht‘ warnings
)f their teacher to be fair and be sure
of anything them told. the scholars

some of the. boys watched them and
caught them In the act at noon, and
it first were going to throw them illto

of typhoid fever, Secretary Townsend.

"Our statistics show that the mortal-

cases. As this death rate is about
double that which is considered the
usual rate III typhoid. It shows a. care-
lessness ou the part of physicians III
reporting their cases. which Is not
creditable to the profession. Some
allowance should of course be made of
luck of well defined symptoms in many
cases. tht the diagnosis can oftml
times be cleared up by a blood test
which will be made III the state labor-
atory tree of charge. The prulnpt rlE-
porting of typhoid will often enable
ililE health officers to recognize early
some common source of infection and
enable him to detect the cause of the
trouble. The physician should rlot
only report his cases. hllt should re-
member also that be Is the first bar-
rler to the escape of thlE typhoid bacil-

see that disinfection is begun early ill

of May. This was 126’less than in

reported from Infectious diseases were
being 14.3 per cent. of the total
mortality.
