The South Norwsllt Water Depart-
ment have been busy during the past
four weeks testing the water mains
and locating the enormous wastage of
water that exists. fly the record of
the Vsnturi meters at the new filter
the quantity of water going through
the mains is registered constantly day
and night. 'i‘ 8 tests that have been

wutabo of water In In the city proper
and cornea from the hundreds of clos-
ets. faucets and other fixtures that are
simply left open to run day and night.
A large prollortlon of these are Clllll~
ed by the fixtures getting out of order
and left to run‘ without repairing.
Through the neglect and Indifference
of many property owners and those
that occupy the prominent, this whole-
sale and colossal wastage of water
has its origin.
. The records taken show that from
1:30 o'clock until 4:30 o'clock in the
morning. the time of the day when
the general use of water is shut off.
the minimum rate at which water was
running away in our city was 2.203.000
gallons per day. At this time of
night. no one. with few exceptions,
would be rising water. and a safe on-
timate oi the punitive wastage of wa-
ter is at. the raw of about 2.000.000
gallons every twenty-four hours. The
maximum rate of water being used
was between lflf' hours «of 7:30 and
10:30 a. m.. alld registered 2.990.000
gallons. Tile difference hetwéen the
minimum and maximum flowage is
some 733,000 gallons per day. which
shows the quantity being legitimately
consumed in our city.
if our city is supplying 10.000 people
with water the above quantity is 7.I
gallons per day for each lmraon. The
users of water who do not allow any
leaks In their plumbing fixtures. con-
sume 78 gallons of water daily, while
from the water fixtures oi those who
are careless atld Indifferent there Is
running to waste 2.000.000 gallons av.

absolutely correct the trouble. and that
will be putting meters on every eer-

some discussion on the matter, and the
mayor thought the whole. council con-
stituted the committee.
