Keogh's stenographer make typewrit-
ten copies, and Mr. Keogh had it sign-
ed and took the acknowledgment. I
never saw the lease after It was type-
written. Beveral days afterward i
saw Mr. Rhoda, he told me the lease
had been signed and asked me for my
bill, which I subsequently gave him.
He first paid me 815, and later 33.

by him)’ and this '18 fee was not for
drawing the lease but for counsel and
service in obtaining the same, and
when l oflercd to share It with Mr.
Keogh he refused to take any of It.
saying that I had done the work and
was entitled to it. I did not regard
the charge for services as excessive.
particularly as I had been advised that
if I was successful in obtaining the
lease, 1 could [fit a fee of from twenty
to twenty-five dollars, and when Ms.
Rhoda, after he had obtained the lease,
paid me the Ill he professed to be
well satisfied with the charge and'said
that I had earned it. I wish to any
right here that i did not, expressly or
impliedly, act in any way for Mr.
Ilemongcili. I had never met Mr.
Rhoda before Mr. Keogh sent him to
me, and I wish to state emphatically.
once for all, that I had no knowledge
or suspicion that Leiaongelll violated
the law prior to his maviction last
fall in the town court. That in my
conduct of nearly fifty or more liquor
cases. or In any bona-i'lde complaints
made to me, have I at no time given
preference or shown part silly to any
one.
I have made a perfectly frank
statement of facts which I can sub-
stantiate, and I trust that the right
thinking people of Norwsllt will now
understand the truth of the matter.
