NOANK. Jan. 14.--A burly negro,
known as Prince Albert, was arrested
here last night and arrfigned before
Judge Lattimer of the Town Court this
morning on a charge of beating and
torturing the fifteen months’ old baby
belonging to Mrs Austin with whom
the negro boarded. The baby was
covered with bniises, showing the for-
ocity of the attack. He was bound or-
er for trial at the next session of the
criminal superior ‘court.

Mrs. lsaac Allen.
Mrs. luauc Allen was born in New
York city in i821, and died in West-
port on December 30th 19M in 1838
she was married. and came to West-
port to live and here she spent all of
her life Mr and Mrs. isaac Alien
were the parents of seven children. all
of which survive their mother. The
large house full of children made much
work for the mother, but she was al-
ways gentle and patient. loving and
loved by every one. and' her children
call her blessed "
Mr and Mrs. Allen celebrated the
fiftieth and slxtleth anniversaries of
their wedding day. and then. after
three years more of married life, Isaac
Allen passed away. With the husband
in the other world, all of the children
grown up. even the grand daughter. to
whom she had been a mother. being
grown up. Mrs, Allen felt that her life
work Was nearly finished it was not
and for seven years more she lived. an
example of patience and of Christian
faith. Mrs. «Allen. who was a devoted
member of the Methodist Church, was
a constant attendant at the service-as
of the sanctuary as long as health and
strength would permit. She was a
great church worker. and her advice
was always appreciated, as it was al—
ways for the good of the church she
loved so well.
She had been a Christian wife and
mother. and when the call came to
leave this world, she was ready and
willing. Her implicit faith in her
Saviour sustained her through her last
Illness.‘which ended suddenly. She
quietly fell asleep. to awaken in the
world beyond the pearly gates to meet
her Saviour and her companion of so
many happy years. and to wait for the
children that the Lord had glvcn her.
and whom she had brought up in t e
admonition and nurture of a Christi
home. The funeral services were well
attended. many beautiful flowers toili-
fylng the love for the dear mother and
friend. The Interment was inuthe fant-
iiy plot in the Westport cemetery. The
sons and daughters are Dr. Elmer Air
