FIRST ELECTRIC TRAIN.
It Was an Accident That Made It Go
to Stamford.
The "first electric train“ pulled inio
Stamford about 2:30 , Tuesday uncr-

the slightest intention of hauling the
train by electricity when It. left New
York but dOWn at Port Chester some-
thing went wrong with the steam lo-
comotive, and it had to be detached
from the train. Thm'e was 110 extra
steam locomotive convonienily near,
but just at that moment there appear-
ed 1111 electric locomotive which was
being tried out. The engineer, or lo-
comotive, wanted to hook on to the
passenger train and finish the run to
Stamford and, after getting into icic-
graphic communication with New
York, he was 111111Wed to do so He
brought the train of live couches into
Stamford without mishap. and thus
Stamford had its first electric train
quite by accident.
