The present case is that of M
Kate Cosgrove, a young Irish woman
who has been in this country about ‘
two years. She came to Norwalk
from Boston a month or two ago and
was, taken ill at the. home of John
Murphy,.ih Connecticut avenue, where
she was cared for. Dr. William J.
Tracey, who was called, soon discover-
edthat she had it Well developed case
of meningitis.
The selectmen Were consulted and
they decided to place her in the isola-
tion building at the town from, as the
patient was not desired at the hospi-
tal. Physicians claim that this dis-
ease is contagious and would demoral-
ize the hospital it a case be taken
there.
A trained nurse was secured from
the hospital and she has been placed
in charge of the patient at the town
farm. The regular town physician,
Dr. A. H. Baldwin, is looking after the
case. Last evening the patient was in
no immediate danger. though this dis-
ease hardly ever proves anything but.
fatal. Scarcely a patient recovered
while the epidemic was in Norwalk.
The physicians have no idea how
Miss Cosgrove, who is about twenty-
live years old, got the disease.

STAMFORD, August 7.———Mrs. Sam-
uel Wood and Mrs. Charles .I. Brown '
were brought to their homes in this
city today from Sound Beach in a
critical condition.
While waiting for a trolley car at
that place last night, they were both
struck, ,‘while in the act of crossing
the road to gain the right side, and
knocked down, sustaining a number
of fractures and injuries. it is thought
to be doubtful whether either will re
cover.
