HARTFORD, July 31 ~The govemor
sent: in seven vetoes today. Five of
these were on amending charters of
railway cvompanies and the other was
on an excise bill. The prospects weie
not good at noon for adjournment to
day. One of the messages was re
garding extending the time within
which the Norwaik, Biidgepmt and 1
Bethe] 'i‘1actlon Company may con~
stract its lines.
The excise veto sent to the senate
was on the bill which permitted the
sale of liquor near the Agricultuial
fair grounds in Windham county. This
is the bill which Mayor Dunn of Willi-
mantic fought a contest on and was «
hea1tiiy congratulated when it went
through the house. The message was
as follows:
"I return herewith without my ap-
provai substitute for senate bill 18 at
an act concerning the sale of liquor
near agricultural fairs. is them any
more reason :01 exempting the licens-
ed dealers in intoxicating liqnms
whose places bf business happen to be
within the prohibited zone in the town
of Windham than there is for exempt-
ing one person from the operation of
any other statute to which evervbody
else in the same line of business must 1
