and was Immediately unloaded and
taken to the Main street lire house.
The truck is unto-date in every re“
spool and the department and city oili-
cials are pleased with its appearance.
The new truck is two feet shorter
than the one which it uuppiuuts, but
has much more effective ilrcl fighting
devices on it.
In addition to the usual equipment
oi‘ ladders, extension, scaling. etc.
plkcs. hooks; ete..1it is fitted with two
twenty-five gallon chemical tanks. The
latter articles play a very important
part in tire lighting nowadays. and are
considered one of the most important
features of the equipment. Many tires
have been put out with patent extina
uulshers by the Norwalk firemen and
they are enthusiastic over the tanks
in addition to this‘snpply of chemicals.
provision is made for-carrying patent
hand extinguishers.
The new truck is painted red. with
black and gold decorations. The lad-
dors are natural wood color, and there
is a good assortment of them. includ-
ing an extension ladder more than 40
foot long. and several other ladders,
extension and otherwise. including
lengths of 28. 111, 30, 24 and 21 feet.
The whole truck gives an impression
of stability. Instead of the wood or-
morotl frame of the old truck, the new
one has a channel steel frame. Metal.
too. is used in other parts of the ve-
hicle more extensively titan in the oth-
‘111' one. Provision is made for the
carrying of various articles required
by the firemen in metal baskets. The
arrangement for operating the brake
appears to be very cilcctive, extending
entirely across the dash.
