COAL HEAVERS STRIKE.

. An Hour.
There was a general strike among
the coal heave1s employed at the New
Haven yards of the New Haven road
yesterday morning. when the night
gang of 150 men gave in notice that
they would do no more work at the
Iate of fifteen cents an hour, demand-
Ing an increase of five cents over the
present rate.
The day gang also threatened trou
bio. and about 9 o'clock the police
were called to see that no violence was
done as it was claimed that the entire
night gang were trying to persuade
their day brethren to knock off work.
The day men listened to them, and
for half an hour there was no work
done. The police arrived and found
that there was really nothing to be
alarmed about, and stated that several
of the' bosses were in consultation wit!'
the men. promising to present their de
mands through the proper channels
and to do all they could for them.
