The Epworth League of the Nor-
walk Methodist Church, will hold its
annual business meeting Friday even-
log at 8 o'clock. At this meeting the
annual reports of the officers will be
read. officers elected for the ensuing
year and other important business
transacted. It is requested that there
be a large attendance at this meeting.
-At an early hour today a freight
train jumped the track between Dan-
bury and Brookfield Junction. A
wrecker was sent up from New Haven
by Way of Norwalk. Very little delay
was caused to the track. though the
train from New Milford to New York
down the Danbnry Division and due
at Norwalk at 8:09 was 26 minutes

Norwaik Aerie, Fraternal Order of
Eagles. held a session last night and
added wings to the equipment of three
candidates. W. J. Rldley. Patrick J.
Quinn and James Stewart. On Friday

A number of the friends of Miss He-
lena Millcrd tendered her a pleasant
surprise party last evening at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry J. Gar-
ner. in East avenue. The surprise was
complete.

An elaborate supper was served dur

LIONEL OBEYED INSTRUCTIONS.
The collector for the Yale lircwlng
hired a horse and carriage from Wil-
liam Williams lt’or the day. When he
stopped at James Layden's he told
Lione| Jones to hold ’the horse.
“Shall I stand here?" asked Lionel.
"Oh. enjoy yourself." replied the col-
lector.
An hour latex-Lionel was discwered
blissfully driving up and down East
avenue. The case was reported to the
police, but no action was taken.
ROLLAWAY RINKLES.
There was 'a big attendance at the
Rollaway Rink last evening at the
dance which was the first one given
by the maangement. The orchestra
comprised five pieces and was very
good.
There will be extra music at the
rink tonight.
In all probability the management
will give one dance each Week at the
Holloway Rink.

The film of P. MacFayden & Com-
pally banks of London. suspended pay-
ment October 20. The company did
considerable Indian banking business.
The London Times. October 21, said
that Arbuthnot & Company. of Ma-
dras. had also suspended payment with
P. Macb‘ayden & Company. adding that
the liabilities of the drill mentioned
firm were believed to be considerable.
Sir George Arbuthnot has been chair-
man of the Chamber of Commerce of
Madras seven times and six times a
member of the legislative council. He
is a Fellow of Madras University. and
was chaiIman of the lndIan Famine
Relief Fund of 1900.
