Leave Town.
The much abused and joked about
tramps had a champion in Chief of
Police Thomas Bradley In the Nor-
waik police court yesterday“ after-
noon. . ‘1 7
Judge E. M. Lockwood had just al-
lowed Frank Pierson. the one-armed
Stamford man, whohad asked forshel-
ter at midnight previously ’ while.
drunk and being refused threw a bun-
dle at a window in the Glendenulng
pharmacy to give cause for his arrest
time to get out of tovfirn As Pierson
double-quicken out of} the court roonr,
the. judge remarked that be guessed
this was the cheapest outcome for the
town.
“it’s all right," replied the chief
"Only these fellowa like him coming
around drunk at midnight and disturb-
ing all of the tramps at the tramp
house and give the police trouble.”
“Well." replied the judge with a
smile. “i don't believe we need worry
it great deal about disturbing the
tramps. Of course it’s too bad that
they should make trouble for the po-
lice."
The chlef held to his point and de
cnared that It was true that the police
were paid to take care of such cases,
but a fightlwas liable to be caused
among the whole band of tramps at
the Smith street hostelr'y by the ad
vent of one in the condition Pierson
was in the night before. Everybody
had a laugh and court adjourned. ,
Pierson has a police record here.
He was bound over to the Superior
Court from here three or four years
ago for assaulting William "Billum"
London so seriously at the old Fair
Grounds that Billum‘s mundane career
nearly came to an and at the time.
Since that festive event Pierson has
lost his left arm. He pleaded hard
to be allowed to go and maintained
that the only thing that he had thrown
at the drug store window was a bunch
