. V. Coonver, a merchant of Sandy
Hook .In the town of Newtwon. such
is the case. and he thinks because poli-
tics enters into every breath drawn by
the town authorities who are sworn
to enforce the laws and protect the
citizens of the town from outrages and
Insult. there in nothing that will set
theonachinery of the law in niotton
pubiican against a Democrat. He
thinks Democrats can do all they like
against Republicans. without running
any risk of being apprehended or pini-
isbed.
Mr. Conover was in Bridgeport re~
cently trying to get some satisfaction
from the county authorities. but as
they all declined jurisdiction it looks
as If Mr, Conovei' would either have
to “grin and bear” the abuse to which
he has been subjected, or else take the
law into his own hands and shoot
down a few of the hoodlnma who are
trying to ruin his business. Such an
action would, at least. get him a bear-
lng before a disinterested court of jus-
lice.
