has sent the following letter to Mr. Hill. explaining the situation:

My Dear Mr. Hill: . ‘
l have. your kind letter of October 22d. You can be very certain that I
deeply regret my inability to come into your district and to speak ill your be-
half as a candidate for Congress. The great work which you have done as a
representative of your district, alld in the general interest, entitles you to n
ro—t-lcctlon; and if the people of your district are as wise as I believe them to
be. there will be no doubt about it. Nothing is more unwise for a Congression-
al electorate than to keep changing its rcprcsentatirm from Congress to Con-
gress. When a representative has been tried and proved to be exceptionally
able. attentive to dtity and hard working. so that hiH lulinencc in the House bo-
comcs stronger anti stronger cut-h year of his service. it is most unwise for
tho people of the district to give up a thing of value in order to send a new
representative to a place in which it will take years for him to acquire any In-

accused from Ontario. It was shown
that he tried to pass under an annulu-

point of having money the state went
on to show that only a short time br-
forc Bailey disappeared from Middle-
town he tried to borrow money. The
state also began to show a motive for
the murder. which was in the money in
Goodalc‘s possession. be having sold a
month before his death a farm. receiv-
in; money which he kept in his pocket.
This money probably amounted to $500.
The trial now is moving speedily to a
conclusion, and it is likely to be com-
pleted before the week‘s end.
