Ex-Llsut. Governor Passed Away at
Hartford Hospital.
HARTFORD; Conn. Sept 21.——1§:x-
Lieutenant Governor George 3. Sum-
ner. a wall known lawyer of Hartford.
died in a private hospital here late
yesterday afternoon. after an opera-
tion for bladder trouble. He was a na-
tive of Bolton and was born in 1841.
He came to this city when a young
man and was admitted to the bar and
began the practice of his profession.
He was a Democrat in politics and
after holding minor olilces was elected
mayor of the city in 1878. He was
elected lieutenant governor in 1888.
on the ticket with Governor Thomas
W. Waller and served as senator from
the Hartford district in the general
assembly of 1887.
Besides his mother who is 92 years
old, he leaves a brother. Frank C.
Sumner. of this city.
