The Catholic Club baseball team de-
feated the Pastime Athletic Club Sat-
urday afternoon at the Polo Grounds,
Winnipauk, by the score of 2 to 0.
The contest was the" preliminary

Want. the Spending of Trolley Gm
. in Wm Avenue Stopped.
Complaint was recently made to
many by Major E. Hill,,.lr., regarding
thenpeed of trolley. cars in West sve-
nue. .Mr. Tammany looked up the
law on the subject and finds that there
is no criminal action to be taken on
the matter under the existing city or-
dinance. ~ The ordinance prescribes
that. the city may recover damages
through, a civil suit brought by the
Corporation Counsel. lie so notified
Mr. Hill. .
The city ordinance under which this
isfcund reads as follows:
Section 1. No car shall be run upon
Washington street, North Main street.
Railroad Place or South Main street
from Washington street to. Elizabeth
Street at any greater rate of speed
than six miles per hour.
Sec. 2. No car'shall be run on West
avenue, South Main street, below Eliz-
abeth street. W dward avenue or
Meadow street at any greater rate of
speed than ten miles per hour.
Sec. 4. Any person or corporation
that shall violate any of the foregoing
regulations shall forfeit and pay the
sum of $50 to the use of said city and
same may be recovered by a civil ac—
tion brought by the city attorney in
the name of said city before any jus-
tice of the peace residing in said city,
against the person or corporation vio-
lating any of saidpreguiatlons.

A complaint was made yesterday to
theSentinel regarding the cruel treat.
ment of a horse yesterday at Calf
Pasture Beach.
Duringthe morning, three men drove
to the beach in a carriage and dug
clams for a while. in the afternoon
they drove the horse out into the wat-ll
er and tried to make the animal drink
salt water. The horse got. into a quick.
sand spot, and went down being near-
ly drowned. Before they got it ashore
it was down a couple of more times.
Persons who saw the affair Were much
incensed at the treatment of the ani-
mal by the three men. Unfortunately
their names could not be obtained or
a complaint would have been made ag.
ainst them.
