Fire Department out thrice last night.
The iirsl alarm sounded at 5:45 front
Box 21, near the junction of Holden
eveuuc. River street and Union place.
The alarm was not turned in from the
box and is supposed to have been
caused by a “grounded"‘wire.
The hells at the house. where the
siren whistle is located and at. Hope
Hose rang. The. siren blew the box
number and the whole department. re-

About 8: 30 last evening, while spec-
ial officer Jarvis Murray was doing
duty in Wall street. two young men
came running up to him and declared
that there was a fire in the Grand
Army, headquarters. The officer lost
on time in sending in the alarm from
box 15 at the corner of Main and Wall
streets and the department came out
on the jump.
When an investigation was made it
was found that the officer“ s informants
had imagined there was a fire.
though they had pretty good grounds
for doing so. Smoke was pouring out
of the veterans headqualtete in great
