The Commodore had barely tied up
at this dock before an engineer who
looks after the dock in the interests
of the contractors, and who is night
watchman also,. came up to the boat.

that he would do nothing of the kind,
that he had tied up for the night with

to the Consolidated Railroad Com-
pony. and if it should burn down the
contractors would have to stand the
