the session of Parliament for which
the members assembled today. Be-
fore the extent of the victory had
been realized It was expected that the
policy of the government on many Illi-
portant. issues would be largely con-
trolley by the Labor Party and to a
lesser extent by the Nationalists, or
by a combustion of the two. With
a clear majority of 85 behind him Sir
Henry Cuntpbell-Bannerman can carry
out the general Liberal program with-
out running much risk. But there
are questions on which the . party Is
not a unit:- and which will cause the
session to be troublous ii Ilot stormy.
One of the first. and by no means the
easiest task of the new government
will be the tackling of the education
acts of 190243, which have been the
cause of so many long debates both In
and out of Parliament. Those who
arc demanding amendments to the
acts claim that the mandate from tho
electors is clever “genuine popular
control. No religious tests for touch-
ers." There are differences of opiu-
ion as to how the changes are to be
carried out, bill on the principles they
agree. in detail they ask fora great
proportion of the cost. of utilisation to
be more of an imperial Exchequer;
the training of teachers to be more
of in imperial than a, local charge;
the appointment of teachers to be un-
der local control, but that. no condl’

compulsory giving or receiving of do-
