South Norwalk Congregational
Church. Mr. Surctle‘s topic was Scim-
mann. and he gavc‘an illuminating. In-
tellt’ictuai and vividly appealing cstl»
mate of ‘ihc great, composer. The
method of the lecturer is extremely
clever. He knows just. how to bring
out the salient. points of his subject
and both in the tcxt of his talk and in
the exquisite music hc interprets, he
reaches the musically disposed. and
the musically cultivated. And- the
play of his keen wit and his pointed
analysis enliven the whole. As we
have before had occasion to remark
ti musically illustrated lecture is difilr ‘
cult. in the extreme to give and for
this reason the number of those who
succeed In it is wonderfully small
when you think of the number who at-
lcmpt. Mr. Surclic succeeds with
distinction as witnessed by his great
and increasing popularity. The audi-
ence last night was cveu larger titan
the week before and it is one of the
finest intellectually evcr gathered in
the place. The lecturer is thoroughly
appreciated. if the value of this won-
derful system of University Extension
were equally appreciated there would
never be any difficulty In placing two

William Murphy. who was believed
yesterday morning. to be in a dying
condition front It stroke of paralysis,

considerably through the day and
there is now much hope for his recov-
ery. The funeral of Mrs. Murphy,
his wife, who died yesterday morning.
