ers, green and white being the color
scheme carried out with vines and

bridal party into the church, which
was completely filled with friends and

The burglars entered by a rear door
while a fourth stood guard in front
of the building. The lamps in the
store were lighted so that when the
burglars exploded a charge of nitro
glycerine‘ in the safe. the people in the
neighborhood who were aroused by
the sound were restrained only by tim-
idity from viewing the oracksmen's
proceedings through the uncnrtalned
windows The safe gave the Yegg-
men considerable trouble, and they set
off four more charges of explosive be-
fore they iinished. They did not use
a drill. but knocked off the knob of
the door and poured in nitroglycerine
after stulfing other vents with soap.
No effort was made to mufiic the ex
ploslon. The outer door was even-
tually blown off, giving the thieves ac
cess to the stamps, but the inner door
behind which was the strong box con
training a considerable amount of cash
resisted all their eflorts When they
went away they left a number of tools
including chlsels. a drill and a knife.

NEW YORK. Oct. 26. -A runaway
street car on the new Williamsbnrs
suspension bridle across the East Riv-
' er today eased the ind‘a'ry of 254 per-
sons, two of theni’ibelng probably fa-
tally hurt. For a thousand feet down
the incline on the Mechanic approach
of the bridge a‘CiM‘sccplier street car
ran with its brakes out 'bf order until
it. hit and demolished a standing Four~
teenth street car in which were 75
passengers. in this latter car most
of the ,inj'uries occurred. it was ten
minutes béfore the wreckage of this
car could be taken off from the last
passenger. K
John Holden. motorman of the
Christopher street car, who remained
on the front of his runaway car, try
ing to stop it up to the last ten yards
of the down hill rush, was caught be
tween the two cars, receiving s free
ture of the skull and internal injuries
from which be is expected to die.
George Bryid, an employee of the
Western Electric Company, also suf-
fered a fractured skull and was taken
to the hospital not expected to live.
The Fourteenth street car, blockad-
ed by a truck,‘ was standing near the
end of the bridge above Attorney
street‘ its passengers'saw the other
car bearing down, my them With its
frantic motormsn making signs that
he could not stop. The men on the‘
rear platform of the standing car
jumped off in safety. The three score
passengers inside the car fought wild-
ly to escape, blocking the doorways.
As the runaway car approached the
rear platform, those near the doorway
pulled back the passe rs who were

by undoubtedly paving several lives.

the fact that the 1,000 foot run down
the bridge incline and the telescoping

S. R. Walker, who resides at 190
West street. South Norwa... , reported
to Chief of Police Vollmer today that
a horse and carriage had been stolen
from him in new York city. He he

brought this way and wanted to have
a sharp lookout kept for it. The ani-
mal was a sorrel. bobtailod fourteen
hands high and had a brass mounted
harness. The carriage was a black

The Connecticut Railway to Light-
ing Company is having drains built
between the track in the upper end
of Wall street. to take off the super-
iiuous water. This stretch of rosdbed,
from the Wall street tunnel to West
avenue, has been a source of trouble
for several years.
The new drains are being built un-
der the direction of Foreman Michael
Lynch.
