NEWPORT. R. 1.. Oct. 25.——The po-
lice brought here last night from Prov-
idence Otto Steiffei, who admits that
he was one of the crew of the "pirate"
sloop Dorado, recently seized here and
found to be filled with plunder taken
from places along the shores of Long
Island Sound and Narragansett Bay.
The police' Were busy all day trying
to discover the whereabouts of Henry
A. Jackson, alleged to be the captain
of the sloop, but no clue as to his
hiding place has been discovered
Steiffel said that. his work consisted
of caring for the plunder and disposing
of it. The other members of the band.
he asserted, were concerned in the
stealing.
The purpose in bringing Steiffei here
was to have him identify the plunder
found aboard the Dorado and the yacht
Bessie and tell the authorities where
it was stolen. The Bessie was also us-
ed by the thieves. Stclffel said last
night that the thefts occurred all along
Long island Sound. He mentioned in
particular Larchmont. Greenwich and
New London. .
’i‘he prisoner claims to be a grad-
uate of a manual training school and
says his home is in Brooklyn. N. Y.
Steiffcl will be taken to Cranston on
Friday, where he will be tried on the
charge of stealing the sloop Bessie.

was found on the Dorado. was stolen
from him at Larchmoul. some time
ago. Several Rhodc island men have

The sheriff of New London will come
here today to look over the plunder.
The maneuvers of a black sloop in
the harbor yesterday afternoon arous-
ed considerable suspicion. it is be-
iici'cd that on board were persons who
have sailed on the Dorado lately.
