waters this year. This one piece of
ground owned by Andrew Radcl is in

a small beginning of his vast holdings.
The crop of. seed here Is practically in-
exhaustible. By the way. this cool-
psny is making a great bid for the
Pacific seed trade. and from what we
have seen. can fill all the orders that
hilly be sent to them. in the fall this
aeed‘wlll be Ill fine condition for ship-
ment overland to the coast. It has
grown about two inches since' last sea-
son. The next piece examined em-
braces a large area. from which 100.000
bushels had been sold this spring to
Rockaway growers. The dredge full
showed tlp single and the growth had
been good. The stock had afine flavor
and good meat. The next piece had on
it 58,000 bushels of shells. planted
last year. Here. was a thick “set" and
promise of large results. In‘ this
ground there had been many "stars"

one had been destroyed; at least none
were dredged up. The set comes in
middle of August.

fine form: They will make good seed

the size of most. of the plots in these
waters. It will seem impossibk to
enumerate the millions of bushels of
young oysters to be found ill these
grounds. We noted that most, of the
"set” this year is on the hack of the
shell.’ On lot 17 the catch was even
better than on but. 5. We then ex-
amined a lot of 400 acres. formerly
the possession of the Hoyt and lion
firm. recently absorbed by the Radsl
Company. The Hoyts had put on this
lot, 22.000 bushels of shells and had
taken off 45,000 bushels of seed. On
this lot was seen also some fine one
year old stock. Do lot 22 we also
saw some fine one year old stock. sin-
gle. and ill the best form. on this
same ground were seen some fine
prime oysters ready for market. hot
23—100 acres, contained some fine
one year old stock, thick and flourish-
ing. This stock has made a wonderful
growth since last season. The seed
here is more prolific than last. year,
and much better than the Long Island
stock. this is last year's strike. The
question arises how do they make the
seed single in these waters? Mr. Hoyt
informs us that. they make a double
crop of seed—at. a certain stage if"
they dredge over the grounds and
break up any clusters, thinning out
the beds and transplanting what is
taken upon other waters. This pre-
