the Episcopal residence in Hartford:

A collection for St. 'i‘homas's sem-
inary. Hartford. will be taken up in all
the churches of the diocese on the
' third Sunday bf October. The generous
response made by our people to the
appeal in behalf” of the seminary in
previous years has enabled us to pay
up ‘most of the debt entailed in the
erection of a new building flVe years
ago. In order that the balance of the
debt may be removed. we urge our ‘
people to contribute with more gen-
erosity this year. as the desired-result
must depend upon their earnest effort.
The deep Interest taken by Catholics
in the education of their priests has
been the pledge of success in an un‘
dertaking which is eslgned to fit our
students ‘i’br 11 initial ministry in
this diocese. Many a young man
would be of great service to the
church. it he were given the opportun-
ity to prepare himself for the sacred
office of the priesthood. In order that
deserving students may find possible
to correspond with the vocat on given
them by God we urge the prosperous
members of our fleck to cooperate
with us in the foundation of purses for
scholarships in the seminary. A purse
of six thousand dollars would produce
an annual income sufficient to support
one student. While individual bene-
factors might not find- it possible to
subscribe such a sum, yet the required
amount might casily'bc obtained by
the collective contributions of several.
Those who engage in thc praiscworthy
efforts to establish purses will he as.
surcd a perpetual remembrance in the
annals of the diocese.

be given the faithful to prepare their
