prietor, whose horse and buggy were
hired by a stranger on the 13th, can

no clue to its whereabouts.
Rumor has it that one stranger may
be one of a gang similar to the one

York to Take Action.

meeting of the representatives of the
state committees from subordinate
councils of the Royal Arcanum was
held yesterday at the Hotel Mauhat~
fan. to take action in reference to the
present situation of first order. 8. W.
Reynolds. of Boston was elected chair-
man und William J. Moody. of this
city secretary.
A committee of nine lawyers ap-
pointed to consider the Situation and
recounucud a plan of action, rcported
u series of resolutions which were
adopted. calling for title appointment
of an executive committee of fifteen
with full power to act for the confer-
ence, and to be instructed “to cause
proceedings to be taken for injunction
and other provisional relief as it may
deem bcst calculated to secure an ear-
ly adjustment of the illegality and in-
validity of the new laws concerning
assessments recently enacted by the
supreme eousel, and adiudging the pre-
vious laws of assessments in full
force." .
It was also resolved that the com-
mittee be directed "to take into cou-
slderallon the question‘ of procuring
such amendments to the lotus of the
Royal Arcanum. and of the state of
Massachusetts. that hie some in the
supreme council shall be limited to
the representatives elected thereto."

crosses the former tracks to connect
Meriden with Waterbury. into an elec-
tric line with electric engines. The
Merldon branch from the crossover to
Waterbury, also will be electrified.

be git/en traffic connections with New
Haven. such as huVe never before been

The survey from Yalesvllle to
Plantsvillo was made during February
and the estimates for building the con-
nection were ready curly in March. No
announcement was made of the prob-
able plens of the New Haven road in
this section at the time, owing, it is

assembly adjourned when the so-cull-
ed “cut" problem in New Haven had
to be thrashed out, and now. as that
difficulty is .nought to boost of mo
way, attentionvis directed to the possi—
ble transformation of the Northampton
division. in order to meet the re-
qulrements of manufacturers on tile
Northampton division it is proposed to
have freight cars hauled by electric
power. 'lue use of electric engines. it
is expected. will make possible a Sche-
dule of about thirty minutes from one
point to the other for expresses. The
use of the cal Canal road further
makes it possible for the New York.
New Haven and Hartford road to come
into direct competition with the Con-
ncmlcut Railway & Lighting Company
