and Princess Henri Caliard do Beam
at de Chaisls arrived today on the
steamer Touraine. The prince is soo-
retary of the French embassy to Rus-
sia and the princess was Miss lica~
trice Winans, daughter of Ross Win-
ans. of Baltimore.
This is the first visit made by the
princess to her native land since her
marriage. which was preceded by a
series of sensational incidents grow
ing out of a dispute as to the valid-

monument in memory of the men oi?

iers and sailors lost their lives in the
Civil War was dedicated here today
with full military cermony by mem-
bers of the Grand Army or the Repub-
lic. The oration was delivered by Rev.
John R. Thurston. pastor of the Con-
gregatlonal Church of Whitlnsville.
The monument is of unique design. A‘
triangular pedestal with slightly con-
cave sides rests upon a circular plat.-
form. Three ionic columns rising
from the pedestal support an entabla-
lure. the tapering roof of which bears
upon its apex a globe surmounted by a
bronze eagle. The monument is of
Connecticut granite and the eagle of
bronze. The total height is 33 feet.
