According to the reports being clrv culated the prospects for a trolley line from Norwalk to this town are very favorable. The report as published in several of our exchanges says: “The railroad committee of the house reported favorably last week Thursday the bill establishing the Norwalk and New Canaan Street Railway Company. The suddennoas with which the. hear- ing on the subject was dropped sever at weeks ago save the public the Im- pression that the bill was practically dead. The Connecticut Railway anti Lighting Company started 10 light the hill. but suddenly, for some reason, withdrew its opposition and it was stated that the matter had been “conr promised." The general impression at the time was that the promoters of the new eotnpany thought they couldn‘t win and dropped the. bill. But it seems that, there was a real cont- promise and that the Connecticut Ratl- way and Lighting Company withdrew its opposition to the bill. It is believed that the. compromise consisted in the new company's con- senting to withdraw that section of their petition which asked for a char- tcr for a company which could furnish electricity and gas to the public. When the new company asked for these con‘ cessions the trolley company was frightened and consented to allow the building of the new road provided the effort to organize a lighting company for Norwalk was withdrawn. It is a fact. that a number of Nor- walk and New Canaan men mean busi- ness Iii this matter and if the company can get a charter it will build immediately a trolley road to New Ca- naan. Several leading citizens of New Canaan are especially anxious to get the new line and there is every probability that If the bill granting the charter can be passed the new road will be built at once. A prominent Norwalk titan said, “\Vo certainly mean to build the road if We can only get that bill through the new road will be built.” INCONSIDERATE.
