,Fauaing themselves in an attempt
to keep a little bit cool, the members
of the Norwalk City Council sat and
transacted the business of the usual
semitmonthly meeting, last night, The
session was a short one, lasting hardly
half an hour, but, notwithstanding,
some important decisions were .made.

The Council committee, consisting
of Councilmen Edward H. Morehouse.
James T, Hubbeli and Henry Matheis,

which had in hand the matter of the
Proposition to dispose of the little
strip of city property in Wall street
known as Klondike Park, reported
that they did not deem it advisable
to sell the property or lease it for so
long a period as desired by Manlce
Del“. Lockwood.

After the report of the committee
had been accepted, it was voted to
reject the offer of Mr. Lockwuod to
lease the property for 25 years at an
annual rental of 810, with the privi.
lege of leasing It for an additional
50 years at a rental of $15 per lllllllllll.

later. He has signified his intention

Llunibo, a life convict in the state

prison at Wethersfleid. committed a
desperate assault yesterday afternoon
on a. keeper, Walter Carter. With a
knife which he had secured inthe
workshop and concealed in his prison
uniform. Clumbo attacked the keeper
just as Carter was closing a door he-
hind the prisoners after dinner was
over. Carter received a bad gash in
the face when the prisoner turned on
him suddenly. With the. help of other
keepers, however, he succeeded in ov-
erpowering Clumbo, and the knife was
taken away from him.

Clumbo was placed in a. cellknown
as the "cooler." An investigationrof
the outbreak will be held. Carteris
wound is severe but not dangerous.

Family to Malta a Visit. -

Elmer Jackson, a. young colored man
hailing from Norfolk, Conn, came to
Norwalk with wife and filthy for a
visit and while here became strongly
enamored of the local intoxicating
fluid. in fact he liked it so well that
Captain of Police Robert N. Morehousc
found it necessary last night to place
him under arrest.

Jackson did not take kindly to ur-
rest and when near the corner of Wall
and Water streets broke away and
darted up Main street like a frighten-
ed deer. He only succeeded in get-
ting as for as Hoyt strcci. where lie
was nabbed by Patrick Slnttory and
(lillcor Thomas Motherland. I‘lc was

With Two Good Programs.

A stage has been erected on the
west end of the/big piano at the flot-
on ’l’olni hotel, and, yesterday opened
the vaudeville programs which will be
hiven there during the remainder of
the summer. A fine program had been
‘srrangetl for the occasion and the per.
fin-manna was uniformly good. The
performers were enthusiastically ap-
plauded by the large audience which

The water commissioners evidently
fear a water famine, for today they

be any trouble at the distributing roil-
