day visited the City of London and en-
joyed the hospitality 0f the lord mayor
and corporation at the Guild Hall. For
the first time since his majesty‘n ar-
rival in England the weather was suffi-
ciently fine to enable him to appear
in an open carriage and for the first
time anything in the nature of really
large crowds gathered to welcome him.
Prom Buckingham Palace to the his-
toric Guild Hall, the royal procession
passed undb‘r’tr continuous archway of
flags and .ilovaérs. both sides of the
route being hedged by deep rows of
slghlseers whose welcome to the
young monarch was of the heartlest
description. soven thousand troops
itned the matex'to the Guild ..Hall
which included Pall Mall, Regent
Street. Oxford Street and Cheapaide.
The procession returned to the palace
by the Victoria embanlnuent. thus giv.
ing the. general public ample opportun
ity to witness the royal procession.
This was composed of six. landautl
drawn by four horses with poatillions
and a sovereigns escort of the Life
Guards. Beside the Spanish king sat
the Prince of Wales. Halts were made
at the boundaries of the different bor-
oughs to receive and answer the ad
dresses of the local authorities. At
each of these points the decorations
were very elaborate and the crowds
were notably lat-.ge King Alfonso un-
restrainedly showed his pleasure at
the demonstrative greeting which cul-
minated in a scene of great enthusiasm
as be entered the Guild Hall. There
were assembled a brilliant gathering
of members oi the royal family. cab
