Racing Auto Dashed Through Fair-
field at High Speed._
A racing machine passed through
Bridgeport. yesterday afternoon at a
clip~very much faster than the law
allows it was headed for Fairfi :i.
There were two men in it. the ..~a-
chine going so fast that the license
number was not easy to catch.
When the machine got on the Fair-
field road it started to speed, and
went over the ground in a way that
made everyone stand aside and look
with astonlslnuent. it was going at
a clip of 40 miles an hour when at
Black Rock. Some one telephoned to
Sheriff Bulkley at Fairfleld to be on
the watch for the machine. The sher-
iff ran out and was in time to see the
automobile round Flint's corner at n
80-milo an hour clip. That was pret-
ty good for corner work. The sheriff
yelled to the two men to stop. They
kept right on and put on more power.
Then Sheriff Bulkley telephoned the
drawbridge tender at Westport to hold
up the machine by opening the bridge.
When the flying automobllists
reached the bridge they slowed down
for the reason that they saw that the
draw was open. Perhaps they sus-
pected that the sheriff was after them.
and that the bridge was open to ac-
commodate him. Whether they knew
the truth or not. the men in the ma-
chine wheeled about, struck for the
back road. and arrived at Norwailt by
another way. and escaped Sheriff
Bulkley.

Glasgow Herald, was harried by a
bumptlous young lawyer. who asked:
