James McKay’s married life was
brief. but it wasn't very blissful. . He
told the story of ii. to Judge Robin-
son in the‘Supei-ior Courtyesterday.
and after listening to the testimony in
the case for twenty minutes. the Judge
graned McKay a divorce. J ',
The plaintiff stated that he met his
wife tor the ilrst time in a State street
saloon. in Bridgeport. si. 11 o'clock on
th morning of October 1(3). 1902. "l

‘All right.‘ so We went up to the city
hall and got married by a Justice of
the peace. That was at 2 o'clock in
the afternoon. 1 had $75 and she saw
the money."
"We lived on Howard arenue. I
worked nights at the Gritphophoue tac-
tory. leaving at 7 at night and coming
home at is in the morning. I lived
with her only three weeks, while i was
working site would be down town run-
ning around all night and she would
return home ‘full.’ One night. she ,got
arrested and was sent to jail for
drunkenness. After that i never saw
her and haven't been able to find any
trace of her since then." . ,
J. Edward Bishop, who resides on
Bank street, stated that he saw Lona
McKay open her wedding night. lie
had known her before by her reputa-
tion, her name then being Leno bic-
Pherson. He said he saw her in the
Perry house. Inter the New Haven
house. on State sfrect drinking with
a party of men. She went upstairs
with 'One of the men and registered on
the. hotel book. The witness stated
that he did not know who the man
was. but it wasn't McKay. She later
came down stairs again and went
away with another man.
William Hart also testified to her
bad character and stated that he saw
her a number of times at the actor-
ious "Harvard" on Wall street, which
has since been torn down. He stated
she was known as a fast. women both
before and after her marriage.
Lena McPherson, when she married
McKay, was quite a. good looking girl
of about 18 summers. The court or-
dered a decree granted upon
grounds of adultery with persons un~
known bctWeen October 11, and No-
vember l, 1902.
