ment with the United States, it would
be expicted also by her neighbors,

be considered by Germany as a propos-
al for a one unittpostage with all cotta-
trles. This would reduce the reve.
nues by many million marks. a reduc-
tion in income to which the finance
ministry is not likely to consent. The
Amsterdam chamber of commerce not
long ago asked the Netherlands govern-
ment to arrange a domestic rate of
postage “with Germany, but the Dutch
government decline to act in the mat-
ter.

of Dawn and Pioneer. all of which by
their Work this season. have gained

DEAN HOLE DEAD.
LONDON. August 27.~—The Very
Rev. S. Reynolds Hole. dean of itoch-
ester since 1887. died this morning. He
had been ill some time. The dean
was born in December, 1819.

led the decline. Trading was quiet in
the specialties and Amalgamated Cop-
per was rather well held.

WALL STREET. 11a. m.—-Additlon-
al slight declines were established be-
fore the aelling was checked by the
bidding up of St. Paul. That stock
was lifted from 152% to 153%. in short
order. but while the demonstration
checked the. general decline. there were
110 vigorous efforts made to rally other
stocks. Chesapeake and Ohio Metro-
politan Street Railway. St. Louis
Southwestern and Kansas City South-
ern. pfd., showed losses at one time
of 11 point, which were partly regained.
At 11 o‘clock prices were on the down
grade again.
