REPORT OF PROBATION SYSTEM.
HARTFORD, August 26.~~Tho re-
port on thr- lirst year‘s work of the
new probation system. instituted by
the last general assembly. covering
the period from August l. i903, to
August 1. 1904, was submitted to Gov-
crnor‘ Chamberlain ‘yestcrduy after—
noon, by-the Connecticut Prison Asa
soclntion through its secretary, John
(7. ’i'nyior. The work of establishing
and carrying on the system was on-
truatcd to the Prison Association by
the legislature. The association llntls
that the pr'cscrrt law does mil rucct
yet it has been able to make a success-
ful start. and is convinced that the
merit of the system are apparent to
the public.
The report shows that 1.175 persons
were placed on probation by the pro»
bailolr triilccrs of 84 towns during the
year. Of this number this were men.

of the Superior Courts, which were
eligible under law to take tip the pro-
bation work yet did not. are as fol-
