NEW YORK. May 31.~The suspen-
sion of S. Munn. Son and Company was
announced 1m the Cotton Exchange to-
day. The firm Is one of the oldest in
the cotton trade In this city. The head
bookkeeper and cashier disappeared
about ten days ago, and the firm be-
lieves that as soon as its accounts are
straightened out It will be able to re-
sumo.
The Munn firm is one of the most
conservative and respected In the cot-
ton business. It is composed of Sam-
uel G. Munn and H. Tileston Mann.
and the estate of A. Godwin Mann, Jr.
The firm had a coffee exchange mem-
bership, but had few open accounts
there. The following announcement
from the firm was read on the Cotton
Exchange:
“We hereby announce to the mem-
bers of the Cotton Exchange that
through the, absence of our head and
trusted clerk. who has left his books
ed to suspend. We trust this
slon will only be temporary,
“We would request all members of
the. Exchange having open contracts
with our firm to present the same to
11s with accounts at once. We further
state that we have very few open con‘
tracts on the New York Cotton Ex-
change, and that these balance each
other."
At the office of the firm It was said
that Clarence F. Cameron, the office
manager and head clerk. had been 111)-
scnt for about a week. A11 examina-
tion of the books so far made, it. was
added, showed apparent discrepancies
amounting to 5125.000.

sentative of the firm. said that the Old
cage Board of Trade accounts of the
suspended firm were badly tangled. A
week ago last Saturday, it was said,
Cameron left the office. saying that he
was going to Brooklyn. where his baby
was ill. Mrs. Cameron called at the
ilrm's office today.- and told the oflicials
of the company that she had not seen
her husband since that day. ,
Cameron had been in the employ of
the company for fifteen years.
Members of the firm of Moon & Com—
pany say that their local cotton ac-
counts are all right, and have already
been suspended, and that the, property
of the firm Improperly diverted was
comparatively small, and not nearly
$100,000.
Several claims to meet notes were
made some time ago by the suspended
firm. and in this way it was discovered
that something was wrong, and on ex-
amlnation of the books the lrregularb
ties were disclosed. ,
