Hanna’s condition this morning isnota-
bly serious. It ls~hslieved by his phy-
sicians .that the climax of the disease
has been reached. This may continue
for is or in: hours and it may continue
for a much longer time. It is their be-
lief that if the fever should break with-

Senator Iiauna may "have a good
chance of recovery; but. If It should
continue for a longer period. as some-
timt‘s Is the case, the worst is to be
feat-mi. as the patient's strength is not
sufficient to withstand the ravages of

All of his physicians were with him
this morning, Dr. ()slcr deeming it ne-
cessary to be present at the examina-
tion of the patient and it the consul-
tation which followed. A thorough ex-
amination of the Senator was made at

utes before 10 o'clock:

slept. fairly well last night. it has been
necessary. at intervals to adluiulsler
stimulants to the patient as a means
of maintaining his failing strength.
That he responds readily to the lic-
liou of the stimulants is regarded by
his physicians as a [movable sign. The
physicians are encouraged also by the
:fact that Senator iiauna's vital organs
continue to perform well their func-
tions. The nourishment given him he
retains and good results have followed.
No irritability of the stomach has been
noted since Wednesday night.
At the conclusion of the examlna
tlon this morning—a prooozls which is
necessarily weakening—the Senator
was given a sponge both. This had
the effect of reducing his temperature
for a time and he fell into a natural
sleep.
The fact that Senator Hanna‘s ill-
IIess has reached the serious if not
critical stage. has brought hundreds of
Inquiries from friends in very part of
the country. Scores of his colleagues
in the Senate and in the House of Rep-
Iesentatives called at the hotel last
night and today and inquired solicit-
ously for the latest news from the bed
side. of the distinguished patient.
President Roosevelt wathamong the
first of the anxious inquirers as to
the Senator's condition. Dr. Rixey
conveys promptly and regularly to the
President the results of the physicians'
examinations of the patient.
it has been decided to send for the
Senator's son, Daniel Hanna who is in
Cleveland.
The following bulletin was given
out shortly after 11 o'clock today:

resting quietly. Ills temperature was

continues to retain all nourishment

saline solution. it is stated that the
purpose of this is to neutralise poison
in the blood. Mrs. Roosevelt is with
Mrs. Hanna.

ed to be shaved. His request was grant-
ed. Reports from the sick room are to
